Many factors, including the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, have contributed to swift economic growth recently in British Columbia. With a 3.8% gross domestic product in the past year, this province has also become a major competitor in the world for mining. Commodity resources such as coal and copper have rebounded from their losses in 2009.
The profitable nature of these products has led to a jumpstart in the economy by creating many employment opportunities in British Columbia. Those working in the real estate and construction industries have seen growth in that more residential and non-residential buildings are being created. The computer information technology and TV /film production industries are expected to return to profitable status and contribute to an improvement in the BC employment rate as well. The Olympic Games alone contributed to a 1.7% increase in British Columbia employment opportunities. Continued growth and economic stability is expected.
